Two Assemblies in Rivers as Lawmakers loyal to wike Hold another Plenary at Assembly Quarters Twenty-six members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have reportedly held a plenary session at the auditorium of the assembly residential quarters.

This comes after Governor Siminalayi Fubara ordered the demolition of the Assembly Complex, citing the need to rebuild a suitable structure following an “arson attack” that occurred on October 29, 2023.

The lawmakers, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), are reportedly being backed by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The sitting by the faction led by Martins Amaewhule follows the declaration of their seats vacant by the five-man group led by Edison Ehie on Wednesday for defecting.

During Thursday’s plenary by the Amaewhule group, the lawmakers condemned the demolition of the Assembly Complex by the state government.

The lawmaker representing the Andoni constituency, Ofiks Kagbang, moved a motion of urgent public importance condemning the demolition, and this was unanimously adopted by the House.

Another member, Major Jack, presented the report on the Rivers State Local Government Amendment Bill to the Speaker, which was adopted.

Amaewhule said when this Bill is passed into law, it will eliminate the governor’s power to dissolve Local Government Executives.
