NAWOJ National Secretariat Congratulates NUJ New President Alhassan Yahaya, Deputy Abimbola Oyetunde

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has joined other comrades and well wishers to congratulate the newly elected NUJ National President Alhassan Yahaya and Deputy National President Dr Abimbola Oyetunde on their election at the just ended 8th Triennial National Delegates Conference/Elections of the Nigeria Union of Journalists held in Owerri, Imo State.

The NAWOJ National Chairperson, Comrade Aisha Ibrahim expressed the association’s felicitations in a statement signed by Comrade Wasilah Ladan, National Secretary.

“Your overwhelming victory at the polls yesterday is well deserved, and a testament of the implicit trust and confidence journalists nationwide have reposed in your leadership attributes over the years.” The National Chairperson stated.

Comrade Aisha Ibrahim described Comrade Alhassan Yahaya and Dr Abimbola Oyetunde as great unionists and leaders who have carved a niche for themselves in their tireless commitment to service, to gender equality and equity, their support for women journalists and their warm candour in dealing with their colleagues. She also applauded their professional dispositions as fine journalists and urged them not to relent.

The NAWOJ Chairperson tasked the duo and all newly elected CWC members to work in unity and peace for the overall good of members and progress of the union.

She also enjoined them to sustain the legacy of the founding fathers of the union in order for posterity to reckon well with them.

The National Chairperson also appealed to the new team to be magnanimous in victory and embrace dear colleagues who contested but did not emerge in the election.

She further thanked journalists for voting the right candidates who have clearly assured all to uphold the ethics of the journalism profession and propagate a culture of welfare and safety for members of the union.
