According to his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor, the Christmas bonus payments are scheduled to be made by 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17.
This move continues the governor’s tradition of prioritizing civil servants’ welfare during festive periods. Last year, while serving as Speaker of the State Assembly, Nwifuru joined governors from Lagos and Rivers states in approving ₦100,000 bonuses for workers to alleviate the effects of the fuel subsidy removal. With this new Christmas bonus approval, local government employees, who received ₦50,000 last year, are optimistic about similar directives being issued to council chairmen.
The approval of the Christmas bonus follows the recent increment of the state’s minimum wage to ₦75,000, surpassing the federal benchmark of ₦70,000. The new wage structure also includes further increments for higher-grade employees, signaling the administration’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare.
The Christmas bonus and wage increase reflect Governor Nwifuru’s focus on improving the quality of life for public servants in Ebonyi, ensuring a festive season of relief and celebration for workers and their families.
