Benue Gov. Convoy Veers Off The Road, Crushes One To Death, Others Injured

A tragic accident involving a vehicle in the convoy of Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, occurred on Sunday at Ihugh in the Vandeikya Local Government Area, leading to the death of a man and injuries to several others.

According to an eyewitness, the crash was caused by poor visibility from dust on an untarred road. “One of the vehicles in the convoy veered off the road due to limited visibility and rammed into a motorcycle,” the witness said.

The governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, confirmed the incident but clarified that the vehicle involved was not part of an active convoy at the time.

“The vehicle was on a separate mission when it got involved in the accident. Dust from the untarred road, combined with an oncoming vehicle, led to the crash,” Iorpev explained.

While the media aide refrained from detailing casualties, he expressed regret over the incident and emphasized the challenging road conditions.

Governor’s Continued Activities
The governor had been in Vandeikya for several days as part of his Christmas celebrations and was already in church when the accident occurred.
