Obi Backs Ganduje Resignation, Urge Other Party Leaders To Emulate

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has applauded the resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, describing it as an honourable step that should serve as an example to other public office holders facing health challenges.

Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, resigned on Friday, citing health concerns and the need to focus on his well-being.

Reacting via his official X handle, Obi commended the APC chieftain’s decision to relinquish power on health grounds, stating that leadership requires both physical and mental fitness.

Stepping aside for health reasons is an honourable choice. It shows awareness and respect for the responsibilities of leadership,” Obi said.

He added that the country can no longer afford the burden of medical tourism, extended sick leave, or absentee leadership due to age-related complications, stressing the need for fit and active leaders.

“By this singular act, Dr. Ganduje has set a moral benchmark. I hope others in similar situations will reflect and do the same,” Obi stated.
