Meet First Nigerian Catholic Priest To Become a SAN, Gets Promoted To The Rank of Professor

Tansian University has announced the promotion of renowned clergy and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Edwin Obiora, to the esteemed rank of Professor.

The university’s Senate approved the promotion at its emergency meeting on July 16, 2025, following the recommendations of the University Central Appraisal and Promotions Committee and external assessors’ report.
Part of the letter of his promotion reads:

“I am pleased to inform you that the University Senate at its emergency meeting held on
Wednesday, 16h July, 2025 has considered and approved the recommendations of the University Central Appraisal and Promotions Committee and the External Assessors report that you be promoted to the rank of Professor in the Faculty of Law.

You are hereby promoted to the rank of Professor … with notional effect from 1 June, 2025

On behalf of the Governing Council, I congratulate you on your well-merited promotion and hope that you will continue with the good work that earned you the promotion.

Rev Fr Edwin Obiora is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the New York Bar Association, the American Bar Association and International Bar Association. He was called to the New York Bar in 1996. And he has practiced in both the US and Nigerian Court of Appeals and Supreme Courts.
