We Are Not Sure Brigadier General Musa Uba Is Dead – Defence Chief Musa Explains

The Nigerian military has clarified that it is not certain Brigadier General Musa Uba is dead following his abduction by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television. According to him, the senior army officer is currently classified as “missing in action” and not confirmed killed.

General Musa explained that the military has not recovered the body of Brigadier General Uba. He said this makes it impossible to officially declare him dead.

He noted that ISWAP typically leaves behind the bodies of victims when they carry out executions. However, that has not happened in this case.

“We are not sure that he is dead because we have not seen any corpse yet. Normally, when ISWAP kills, they leave the body for recovery,” General Musa said.

General Uba Listed as Missing in Action
The Defence Chief stressed that Brigadier General Musa Uba remains listed as missing in action. He added that the military is still hopeful he is alive.

According to him, there are ongoing rumours suggesting that the abducted officer may still be in captivity.

“So, he is classified as missing in action, not killed in action yet. We have heard rumours that he is still alive, and we are hopeful,” he added.

Efforts Ongoing to Secure His Release
General Musa assured Nigerians that security forces are making continuous efforts to locate and rescue Brigadier General Uba from ISWAP.

He said the military remains committed to ensuring the safe return of all personnel captured in the line of duty.
