Reacting As LP Lawmaker Who Joined APC Meets Obi, Kwankwaso After Election Defeat

Prof. Paul Sunday Nnamchi, the member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has become the subject of social media mockery after he was spotted at a political meeting involving former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwas

Recall that Nnamchi was elected to the House of Representatives on the platform of the Labour Party in 2023, riding on the strong Obidient wave that swept through parts of the country, especially the South-East.

However, in June 2025, he dumped the Labour Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, with Speaker Tajudeen Abbas reading his defection letter on the floor of the House. Reports at the time said Nnamchi cited crisis within the Labour Party as part of the reason for his movement to the APC.

But his latest appearance around Obi and Kwankwaso has now triggered political jokes online, with many users accusing him of trying to retrace his steps after allegedly failing to secure comfort in the APC ahead of his re-election bid.

The mockery followed an X post by user @Nedumcity_, which showed Nnamchi at the meeting and drew attention to the irony of a politician who left the opposition camp now appearing around opposition figures again.

Obi and Kwankwaso have recently become central figures in the renewed opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 general election, after both men were reported to have joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in a move that has raised fresh speculation about a possible joint ticket

For many critics online, Nnamchi’s appearance at the meeting was not ordinary political consultation. They framed it as a case of political return after an alleged miscalculation.

Some users said he abandoned the movement that gave him national visibility, only to realise that the APC may not offer him the political security he expected.

Others mocked him as a “prodigal politician,” saying he was now looking back at the same opposition structure he once left behind.

Top Replies:

@DaninhoEze: @NDCHQS Beware of those law makers elected under LP using PO wave who later abandoned him to APC and now followed him to NDC. E.g the current serving law maker from Enugu”

ezeokechukwu42: “They have started crawling back but this time, election is by individual not party. I can’t be a fool for the second time”

@Cocmez: “The man that betrayed Obidients should be shown the exit door”

@kacyfyn1: “Pls who is he let’s bless him with call out to the HQ. No more imposture.”

@AprilNonic: “We don’t want occultism under PO, stakeholders better thread with caution”

One user wrote: “So after using Obidient votes to enter Abuja, he ran to APC and now wants to come back through the same door?”

Another said: “This is why voters must start asking serious questions. You cannot collect mandate from one movement and go and eat with another party.”

Another user mocked: “APC breakfast is real. He has remembered Peter Obi and Kwankwaso now that ticket is becoming difficult.”

Another comment read: “Politicians have no shame. They move anyhow and still expect the people to clap for them.”

One user added: “He thought APC would give him automatic return ticket. Now he is tracing the road back to opposition.”

The development has again reopened the debate over political defections in Nigeria, especially by lawmakers who win elections on one party’s platform and later cross over to another party without returning to the electorate for a fresh mandate.

For Nnamchi, the issue is no longer just his movement from LP to APC. It is now about perception.

And in Nigerian politics, perception can sometimes be as damaging as the actual defection itself.
