A commercial tricycle rider in Aba, Abia State, has won the admiration of many Nigerians after returning ₦4 million that a female passenger had forgotten in his tricycle.
The rider, identified as Lucky Okoro, narrated the incident on his Facebook page on Thursday, stating that the passenger, a Cameroonian woman, had boarded his tricycle from Aba Main Park to Ariaria Market but had forgotten her bag, which contained a large sum of cash.
According to Okoro, he initially went back to the park to search for her but couldn’t find her. He later traced her to a junction near Ariaria Market where she was crying uncontrollably and appeared suicidal.
“I called her, wiped all her tears then returned the money to her and took her to a hotel and she paid for it. I told her to stay there so that tomorrow she can continue. She is from Cameroon, she’s not a Nigerian talk less of Aba woman,” Okoro wrote.
In viral videos from the scene, the woman was seen praying for Okoro while holding onto the bundles of cash as bystanders applauded the tricycle rider for his rare display of integrity.
Despite being mocked by some of his colleagues who called him a “mugu” for returning the money, Okoro said he was proud of his action.
“Thanks Jehovah, I found her. Some of my fellow Keke people called me mugun but I am not a mugun. I love what I did,” he wrote, identifying himself as a Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
He also thanked God for the opportunity to do what he described as “the right thing.”
Reactions have continued to pour in on social media, with many Nigerians applauding Okoro’s honesty and saying he deserves public recognition for his act.
