ADC Mourns As Young Vibrant Party Spokesman Slumps, Dies In IMO State

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, who reportedly slumped and passed away on Wednesday, October 1

Confirming the incident, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, MacDonald Amadi, described Asuzu’s death as a devastating loss. He praised him as “a man of uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”

Asuzu, a native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, was widely admired for his blend of academic excellence and grassroots activism. He held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was pursuing a doctorate before his untimely death.

Before joining the ADC, he was an active member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Outside politics, he was celebrated as a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor whose influence cut across both religious and secular communities.

Ihedioha Mourns
Former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, expressed deep grief at the loss, recalling his recent meeting with Asuzu

“Grief and shock overwhelmed me upon learning of the untimely and unexpected passing of Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu. A little while ago, he visited my Abuja office, and we had robust and meaningful discussions on diverse issues,” Ihedioha said.

He noted that Asuzu and his team had informed him of their decision to honor him as the patron of their support group, ‘I Stand with ADC.’

“Ugo was a promising young man with great potential and vision. In my various engagements with him, he came across as very knowledgeable, passionate in the course he believes in, and non-mercantile,” Ihedioha added.

The former governor described Asuzu’s passing as “a stark reminder of life’s fragility,” stressing that his absence would leave a significant void in the Rebuild Imo Organisation, the Imo ADC, and the numerous other groups he belonged to.

“While no words can fully console you, may you find solace in the wisdom of Ecclesiastes—that there is a time for everything under the sun. Ugo has left his mark and departed with dignity. We will continue to pray for his soul and honor his legacy,” he said.

“On behalf of the Rebuild Imo Team, which Ugo was committed to, and my family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Azuzu family. May your soul rest in peace.

The late Ugochimereze Asuzu is remembered not only as a rising political figure but also as a man of faith, integrity, and vision whose legacy will continue to inspire many within and beyond the political space.
