The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its authority over all affiliated groups and political support organizations, warning that donations and campaign funds must be channeled through official party structures rather than parallel groups operating independently.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, following a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja.
According to the statement, the NEC emphasized that the NDC remains supreme and should not be treated as a platform built around any individual or political tendency.
Director said the party was committed to strengthening its institutional structures and ensuring that all governments elected on its platform work closely with party leadership in formulating policies, programmes and appointments.
“The party is being built as an institution, not a personality cult, political movement, or Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to be used and discarded,” he said.
The NDC’s position is expected to resonate within various support blocs associated with the party, including Obidient and Kwankwasiyya members, as the leadership moves to tighten control over party affairs and fundraising activities.
The NEC directed that all affiliated groups, non-governmental organizations and support movements linked to the party must operate under its supervision and guidance.
“All affiliated groups and NGOs shall operate under the guidance and control of the party and must not function in parallel with, or independently of, the party structure,” the statement said.
As part of efforts to promote discipline and accountability, the party announced plans to introduce a comprehensive Code of Conduct for party officials and candidates. A committee headed by the National Legal Adviser has been constituted to develop the framework and implementation guidelines.
The party also unveiled a National Reconciliation Committee tasked with addressing grievances among members and healing divisions that emerged after the recently concluded primaries.
The move comes amid complaints by some aspirants who alleged that candidates were imposed for various elective positions during the party’s nationwide primary elections.
On financial management, the NDC stressed that strict accountability measures would be enforced across all levels of the party. Director stated that candidates seeking elective positions would be required to fully disclose funds raised for their campaigns as well as all contributions received.
He added that party resources must be used solely for official party activities and that all campaign donations must pass through designated party accounts.
“On financial probity, the party will enforce strict accountability in the management of party resources by all officers, and party funds must be used strictly for party business,” he said.
The spokesperson further disclosed that funds for presidential, governorship and other campaign activities would be required to flow through approved party accounts to ensure transparency and proper oversight.
The NEC urged members to place the interests of the party above personal ambitions and remain committed to building a strong and enduring political institution capable of serving future generations.
