Anambra Govt Approves ₦87m Insurance Cover for New Government House

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the insurance of the new Government House, known as the Light House, Awka, for the sum of N87 million.

The approval was granted on Monday during an executive council meeting presided over by Governor Prof. Charles Soludo and held at the Light House, Awka, the state capital

This was disclosed in a statement released and signed by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, and made available to journalists in Awka

According to Mefor, the approval was issued during the 23rd ANSEC meeting held at the Light House, Awka, on November 17, 2025.

He stated: “The Council approved the sum of N87,168,413.00 (eighty-seven million, one hundred and sixty-eight thousand, four hundred and thirteen naira) only, as the annual premium for the provision of an asset insurance policy/coverage for the Light House, Awka, under a long-term agreement of five (5) years in the first instance.”

The statement also indicated that during the meeting, the Council deliberated on several other issues, including plans for a memorable Christmas celebration, the condemnation of death rumours concerning former governor Chief Willie Obiano, and congratulations to the new Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Bond Anyaehie.

Mefor further announced the award of additional projects. These include the modification and completion of the abandoned court building and the renovation/upgrade of associated structures within the Court of Appeal Complex, Awka; the rehabilitation of failed portions of Court Road and Obunagu Road within the Awka Metropolis; and the supply and installation of fire-fighting equipment at the College of Nursing Sciences, Umueze-Isuofia, in Aguata LGA, among others
