The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Pastor Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.
Akpe, who previously served as Chief of Staff to Governor Douye Diri, was nominated for the position in recent weeks. His confirmation by the lawmakers followed due legislative procedures at the Assembly complex in Yenagoa.
The confirmation signals continuity within the current administration, as Akpe has been a close ally and key member of Governor Diri’s executive team. During his tenure as Chief of Staff, he was widely regarded as a central figure in coordinating government activities and managing the governor’s office.
Lawmakers described the nomination as well within the governor’s constitutional powers and expressed confidence in Akpe’s ability to support the administration’s development agenda. The screening process reportedly focused on his professional background, public service record, and vision for the role of deputy governor.
