Beware Of Iron Kwandem Merchants: UNIZIK Security Arrest 2 Suspected Armed Robbers Disguised As Scavengers In Awka

Security operatives at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, have arrested two suspected robbers who allegedly disguised themselves as scavengers to steal from the institution.

This was contained in a statement issued by the School Management, in which it was revealed that the suspects, identified as Shehu Ibrahim and Sadiq Haruna, were apprehended on Wednesday, September 4, 2025, after an investigation into the theft of an air conditioning unit from the University’s printing press.

According to the UNIZIK Security Department, the duo had been moving around the campus pretending to scavenge, while in reality, they were targeting valuable university property. A search conducted on them revealed a dagger component in the possession of one of the suspects, sparking more concerns about their intentions and the potential threat they posed to the campus community.

It was further revealed that suspects have since been handed over to law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution in line with the law.

While reassuring members of the University community of their vigilance, the UNIZIK Security Department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the institution. It further urged staff, students, and visitors to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to security officials for swift action.
