As the world commemorates the World Breastfeeding Week from the 1st – 7th day of August 2026, Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) is not left out in the celebrations.
On Monday, 3rd July, 2026, in the spirit of the commemoration, the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Agala joined other health personnel and stakeholders to mark the day at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), Garrison annexe, in an event organised by the State Ministry of Health.
Also in the spirit of the day, RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary was on a live phone-in programme on Grace Impact Radio to discuss the significance of Breastfeeding, while she later participated in a programme organised by Rivers State Primary Health Care Management Board (PHCMB) in Ogu Town, Headquarters of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area .
In a statement by RIVCHPP, signed by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, the state social health insurance agency stated that, “A healthy start begins at birth,” saying that every child deserves the best possible start in life, agreeing that Breastfeeding is one of the best gifts a mother can give.
The statement further affirmed that, ” At RIVCHPP, we believe every mother and child deserve access to quality healthcare from pregnancy through infancy.
Dr. Agala said that RIVCHPP’s health insurance packages help everyone access the care they need when they need it.
At the flag-off event in Ogu Town, RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer stated , once more, that “At RIVCHPP, we are concerned about the health of our mothers and children, we recognise that breastfeeding is so critical for a sustainable start in life for our children. We are committed to expanding coverage for all our children, mothers, and everyone living and doing business in Rivers State.”
