The Anambra State Police Command has struck a decisive blow against a notorious syndicate preying on critical public infrastructure, following a series of intelligence-led raids that ended in arrests, shocking discoveries, and one dramatic death.
On Thursday, August 21, turned into a day of reckoning for the criminals after coordinated operations across Onitsha and Obosi exposed the scale of the network draining the state’s power installations.
First Strike: Onitsha Hideout Busted
Acting on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, stormed a suspected hideout along Atani Road, Onitsha. In the heat of the raid, three men were captured—25-year-old Adamu Ali, 22-year-old Usman Sulaiman, and 26-year-old Isah Abdullahi.
What Police found was damning: bags stuffed with high-tension cables, melted wires, and dismantled transformer parts—evidence of calculated sabotage. Investigators revealed that the suspects are linked to a sprawling cartel supplying stolen infrastructure to Lagos buyers, fueling an underground market that thrives on vandalized national assets.
Obosi Drama: Death from a Leap
While officers were still processing the first arrests, the streets of Obosi erupted in a separate operation that reads like a crime thriller. Patrol operatives spotted four young men clutching a black “Super Shopping” bag in suspicious circumstances near Ascension Anglican Church Road.
Three suspects vanished into thin air, but one wasn’t so lucky. Inside the bag? Assorted armoured cables, industrial cutters, gloves, and tools designed for stealth theft. But the day’s real drama came moments later: while in custody, the lone suspect made a reckless dash for freedom—hurling himself from a Storey building in a desperate bid to escape justice.
