Collaborate With Security Agents, LGA Chairmen To Curb Land Grabbing, Herdsmen Attacks In Etche/Omuma -Rep Member, Kelechi Nwogu Urge Constituents

Hon. KELECHI NWOGU, the distinguished member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has called on the people of Etche to be more proactive in safeguarding their communities against the menace of land grabbing and the rising concerns of suspected herdsmen attacks. He urged community members to promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities, stressing that early intervention is key to preventing escalation.

In a meeting with members and stakeholders of his constituency at his Portharcourt residence, shortly after the Council Chairmen were sworn into office, the federal lawmaker emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, and as such, the people must collaborate with the newly elected chairmen of Etche and Omuma LGAs, alongside security agencies, to ensure a coordinated response. According to him, government institutions and security operatives can only function effectively when they receive credible intelligence from the grassroots.

Hon. Nwogu assured his constituents that he would continue to use his office to amplify their concerns at the national assembly while working hand-in-hand with local authorities to implement effective strategies that guarantees safety and peace. He noted that unchecked land grabbing and violent incursions not only threaten the lives and livelihoods of the people but also jeopardize development prospects of the entire constituency. He reminded Etche people that development does not thrive in an atmosphere of hostility, criminality, and acrimony.

He further commended the resilience of the Etche people, encouraging them not to take laws into their own hands but rather to trust in lawful processes while remaining vigilant. He reiterated that security agencies are mandated to protect lives and property, and their efficiency is greatly enhanced when citizens act as partners rather than passive observers. He stated that no criminal or land grabber can successfully operate in Etche without support from community leaders and members. He warned that anybody who supports or collaborates with external criminal elements to destabilize Etche will face the full wrath of the law.

Finally, Hon. Nwogu urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth organizations in Etche and Omuma to foster unity and remain steadfast in defending communal heritage. He expressed optimism that with transparency, vigilance, and collaborative action between the people, the local councils, and security agencies, Etche and Omuma can overcome these challenges and continue on the path of peace and sustainable progress.
