Court To Deliver Judgement On Authentic Chairmanship Candidate Of APC In Rivers LGA Elections

The Chairmen of local government Councils elected in the just concluded council election under the platform of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State will know their fate on the 5th of November, 2025 at the state high court sitting in Port Harcourt

This is because presiding judge, Justice STEPHEN JUMBO will on the 5th of November, deliver ruling in some arguments including the issue statute-bar jurisdiction in a suit filed by FUBARA DAGOGO and eight others against Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, (RISIEC).

Justice JUMBO after listening to arguments from Counsel for the Claimants and Defendant on the issue of whether or not the Claimants’ case is statute-barred and non-justiciable, adjourned to Wednesday, 5th of November, 2025 for ruling on statute-bar and Jurisdiction.

FUBARA DAGOGO and eight others who are members of the Chief EMEKA BEKE-led faction of the APC in the state are seeking a declaration that the RISIEC is bound to accept the candidacies of 17th Claimants submitted to RISIEC on the 13th of August, 2025 as Chairmanship candidates for the 30th August, 2025 Local Government Council Elections.

The Claimants are also seeking for an order of Perpetual Injunction restraining the Defendant (RISIEC) from recognizing, acting or accepting the result of the primaries of the APC that were purportedly held on the 4th of August, 2025 or any other date since they have been substituted by the APC and which names/lists were conveyed to RISIEC through a letter dated the 7th August, 2025.

The Local government chairmanship candidates under the leadership of Chief EMEKA BEKE-led faction of the APC want the court to declare them as authentic winners of the election and substitute those currently presiding as chairmen of twenty LGA won by APC as declared by RSIEC.
