A barber simply identified as Ekpe with shop at Ekwulobia street,off Azikiwe street, Mile 2 Diobu, PortHarcourt was inflicted with grievous machet cuts by suspected cult members in one of the Universities in Rivers state who mistook him for their rival,we learned.
We gathered that the rival cult groups in one of the University in the area clashed at streets close to the institution’s back gate at about 3:00pm on Tuesday 9th September,2025.
We learnt that as the clash ensued, members of one of the rival cult groups saw Mr Ekpe who was dressed on black and white attire at Azikiwe/Hobobolane street and mistook him for their opponents who were dressed in the same attire when they started inflicting machet cuts on him.
Our source disclosed that a member of the cult group inflicting machet cuts on Mr Ekpe on approaching the scene told his colleagues that the victim was a barber and not their rival before they stopped the onslaught.
It was further gathered that Police operatives were seen patrolling the area few minutes after the incident but is not clear if arrests were made.
This online publication could not get response of the Rivers Police command as at time of filing the report.
revelationagents.com met the absence of the barber when the online platform visited Ekwulobia street,Mile 3 Diobu where his barber shop is located as he is said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed medical facility.
The barber could not also be reached on phone as it was gathered that he lost his handset while he was been attacked.
However, a member of local vigilante guarding Ekwulobia street and eyewitnesses who pleaded anonymity confirmed the incident to our reporter.
Dependable sources revealed that the incident may not be unconnected to supremacy battle between suspected Vikings and Klu Kux Klans in one of the higher institutions in the state in recent times.
Recall that two months ago,the Rivers State Police command confirmed the arrest of three suspected student cultists and recovering of English made revolver pistol by Azikiwe Police Division at back gate of a University in the area.
