Delta Police Track Fulani Kidnapping Syndicate To Their Hideout In Ogwashi-Ukwu, Recover 5Million Ransom Paid By Victims

The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, with the arrest of suspected kidnappers and the neutralisation of a notorious armed robbery gang in separate sting operations.

In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed that operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, successfully tracked a kidnapping syndicate to their hideout in Ogwashi-Ukwu, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

According to Edafe, “On July 12, 2025, at about 06:30hrs, the Command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, led by CSP Godwin Osadolor, trailed suspected kidnappers terrorising Delta State to their hideout in Ogwashi-Ukwu. A suspect, Sanusi Abdulahi, was arrested in possession of N5,000,000, confirmed to be part of the ransom collected from one of their victims.”

Preliminary investigations revealed the gang was behind a series of abductions in communities such as Ibusa, Ogwashi-Ukwu, Obulu-Okiti, Issele-Uku, and Issele-Asagba. They were also linked to the recent kidnapping of a young woman in Ogwashi-Ukwu on July 9, 2025.

Following Abdulahi’s confession, the operatives stormed additional hideouts at Second Deputy and Oko in Asaba, where four more gang members were arrested. Investigation into the syndicate’s operations is ongoing.

In a separate operation on July 9, the Command’s CP-Special Assignment Team raided the hideout of a violent robbery gang along the Patani-Ughelli Expressway, near Unenurhie axis.

“During the sting operation, the suspects—identified as Solomon Danisco a.k.a. ‘Picolo’, Nelson Jacob, Oruma Saturday, Olise Jude, Precious Urhobowin, and Whisky Rufus a.k.a. ‘Asawana’—engaged the operatives in a fierce gun battle,” the statement said.

The police overpowered the gang after a prolonged shootout. Six of the suspects sustained critical injuries and were later confirmed dead at the hospital, while two others are receiving treatment.

Recovered from the scene were four locally made firearms and 19 rounds of live cartridges.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, lauded the efforts of the operatives and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, releasing the Command’s dedicated control room phone numbers:
