Drama As Agaba Masquerade Attacks Onowu During Cultural Festival In Anambra

How moments of celebration turned tense at a cultural event in Awgbu community, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, when the popular Agaba masquerade suddenly attacked a traditional title holder while performing live on stage.

The incident, which occurred involved the Agaba masquerade and the Onowu of the community, Chief Ugonabo Ego-Mbute. Eyewitnesses said the masquerade abruptly charged at the Onowu during a live performance, forcing security personnel and attendees to intervene as panic briefly spread across the venue.

Videos of the incident have since circulated on social media, drawing mixed reactions from the public. While some described the act as a breach of traditional decorum and respect for community leadership, others called for clearer guidelines to ensure safety and control during cultural displays.

Although no serious injuries were reported, the incident has sparked wider conversations on the need for proper supervision of masquerade performances to prevent violence and protect dignitaries and spectators.
