The attack came just hours before a crucial election in the region. According to reports, a group of armed men believed to be political thugs launched the assault at Okojie’s home. The attackers arrived in a Lexus GX 470 with a Rivers State license plate and posed as police officers to gain entry under the guise of having an appointment. Their plan, however, was foiled by the swift intervention of Okojie’s security team.

During the altercation, two of the attackers managed to flee, while two others, including the driver, were captured and are currently in police custody in Uromi.
Michael Ihaza, a media aide to Okojie, confirmed the incident and suggested that preliminary investigations point to political motives.

The apprehended suspects allegedly confessed to being directed by local leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan North-East, raising suspicions of politically motivated violence ahead of the upcoming election.

The incident has sparked concerns about the escalating tension in the state as candidates and political parties gear up for the election. Authorities have launched a full investigation into the matter, and security in the area has been heightened. Prince Okojie, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his gratitude for the quick action of his security personnel, acknowledging that the situation could have taken a far more tragic turn.
