The Federal Government, through the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), has closed 22 unaccredited colleges of education operating across Nigeria.
The action follows a nationwide audit and inspection, including personnel verification and financial monitoring, which revealed that these institutions failed to meet operational standards.
In a statement, the NCCE said: “The commission identified and shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across the country.”
The closures come weeks after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed education regulatory bodies—the NCCE, National Universities Commission (NUC), and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE)—to take decisive action against unapproved higher institutions.
The NCCE emphasised that the exercise is part of a broader effort to sanitize Nigeria’s education sector and ensure that only accredited institutions are allowed to operate .
