Finnish Gov’t Takes Strong Actions Against Simon Ekpa, Freezes His Assets, Moves Him to ‘Toughest Prison’

The Government of Finland has further closed in on the detained self-acclaimed factional leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Simon Ekpa.

News report from Finland indicates that assets including bank accounts and companies associated with the self-acclaimed “Prime minister” of Biafra have now been frozen by Finish authorities, Yle a Finish newspaper reports.Ekpa was arrested on November 21, 2024 in Lahti, Finland and was subsequently arraigned on account of “terrorism financing” and inciting violence through the social media. Four other individuals that have not been named were also arrested alongside Ekpa.

Ekpa and his accomplices are currently detained in prison after a court in Päijät-Häme ordered their detention.

Finish security officials had earlier announced that Ekpa has no right to bail due to the severity of the crime he being accused of according to Finish laws.

His trial will commence in May 2025.

Recall that Nigerian authorities have already announced that they were closely monitoring the trial of Ekpa with intention to demand for his repatriation to Nigeria for trial.

Ekpa’s “autopilot” group has over the past two years unleashed unprecedented violence on the people of the Southeast region of Nigeria. This is in addition to crippling the economy of the region with a “sit-at-home” orders that were usually enforced by violence attacks on unarmed citizens in the region.
