Flood Sweeps Two Sibling Away From Eligbolo Community in Rivers

Two persons are feared dead after a heavy downpour late Friday afternoon led to flooding in the Eligbolo axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State

The victims, seventeen-year-old Emmanuel Peter, a shoe cobbler, and his sixteen-year-old nephew, Miracle Peter, a secondary school student, were reportedly swept away by the floodwaters

Both victims were residents of the Eligbolo community

Narrating the tragic incident the father and grandfather of the victims. Peter Ekpo, said Emmanuel got drowned while attempting to rescue Miracle, who had been submerged by the flood

According to him, the tragedy occurred shortly after the boys helped an elderly woman cross the flooded area. Miracle’s slippers had fallen off, and while trying to retrieve them, he slipped and was carried away by the flood Emmanuel drowned in an effort to save him

Narrating further, the mother of Miracle, Mrs. Onyinyechi Peter, expressed shock and grief over the incident that claimed the lives of her son and brother

For his part, the elder brother and uncle of the victims, Francis Peter, said efforts are still ongoing to recover the body of Miracle, after Emmanuel’s body was found across the Eliozu community drainage early Sunday morning

He appealed to both the local and state governments for assistance in recovering the remaining body and to support the family with the burial arrangements
