Former APC National Chairman Resigns From Party, Joins ADC

Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has officially left the ruling party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

His defection comes as internal tensions continue to rise within the APC, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

Oyegun, who served as the APC’s inaugural national chairman from 2013 to 2018 and was instrumental in the party’s 2015 presidential victory, has now thrown his weight behind the growing opposition coalition operating under the ADC platform.

He is now working alongside other key political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal to strengthen the coalition
The ADC has recently attracted several other high-profile politicians, including former Chief of Air Staff Saddique Abubakar and another former Edo State governor, Oserheimen Osunbor.

Oyegun’s move is viewed as a major boost to the ADC’s ambition of becoming a dominant force in the 2027 elections.
According to insider reports, his defection was part of a carefully coordinated strategy led by political leaders advocating for the ADC to serve as the central platform for the new opposition alliance.
