Gov Obaseki Raise Alarm Over Allege Planned Invasion Of Govt House By Philip Shaibu, Seeks Police Intervention To Stop Him

All Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed serious concerns over reports that the reinstated Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, is planning to invade the Government House. This action is supposedly set to occur on Monday, September 30, in an attempt to enforce his reinstatement, despite an ongoing legal appeal.

Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser to the Edo State Government, issued a statement late Saturday. He called on the Inspector General of Police and the general public to intervene and prevent Shaibu from carrying out what he termed a “devious plot.”

Osagie cautioned that such a move could trigger chaos and disrupt public order. He referenced a previous incident during Shaibu’s attempt to access the Government House, which resulted in the death of a police officer.

“We want to draw the attention of the Inspector General of Police to the intelligence we have gathered regarding a planned move by the erstwhile Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu to forcefully enter the Edo State Government House to purportedly enforce the ruling of Justice J. K. Omotosho,” Osagie stated.

He stressed that the appeal process is still ongoing, and any attempt to enter the premises would be unlawful. “The stay of execution is still pending at the Court of Appeal, and we appeal to the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the state does not descend into anarchy because of the ambition of one man. The last time Shaibu attempted to do this, it led to the death of a police officer. We believe that is one death too many, and it is only wise for us to prevent a repeat of such.”

The government has formally informed the Inspector General of Police and other relevant parties. Their communication emphasized that “all actions relating to the enforcement or execution of the judgment of Honourable Justice J. K. Omotosho in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/478/2024 should be stayed pending the hearing and determination of the Motion for Stay of Execution/Injunction Pending Appeal.”

Osagie highlighted that the appeal case presents special circumstances that the Court of Appeal should consider. “This will ensure that the plaintiff/respondent, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu, does nothing to cause a breach of the peace or a breakdown of law and order in Benin City and Edo State,” he added.

The Edo State Government is urging all parties to respect the legal process and allow the court to resolve the matter peacefully.
