Gunmen In Military Uniform Attack Quarry Site In Akamkpa Shot Policeman Dead, Kidnap 2 Chinese Expatriate

A yet to be disclosed police inspector, was fatally shot on Thursday evening at a quarry site in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The gunmen, who attacked the quarry at around 5:20 p.m., not only killed the officer but also stole his AK-47 rifle, identified by serial number BE-35-2982.

Additionally, the assailants abducted two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian from the site.

A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Zone Six, SP Nelson Okpabi, confirmed the incident and provided further details.

According to Okpabi, the gunmen, dressed in military camouflage, gained access to the quarry compound after a civilian worker at the security gate allowed them entry.

The armed assailants then launched the attack, leading to the inspector’s death and the kidnapping of the victims.

In response to the attack, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone Six, AIG Jonathan Towuru, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.

The AIG also directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Zonal Criminal Investigation Department to swiftly proceed to the scene for further investigation.

Okpabi emphasized that coordinated efforts are underway to apprehend the criminals, secure the safe release of the hostages, and ensure that those responsible face justice.

He said: “The AIG commiserates with the slain inspector’s family, relatives and friends.

“He has resolved not to rest on his oars until the victims are released and justice served on those behind the dastardly act.
