Gunmen K!ll One Out Of Two Medical Doctors ∆bducted On New Year Day In Edo State

The victim, identified as Tahir Abu Emhoye, was abducted alongside his elder brother, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, on January 1, 2026.

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed one of the two doctors abducted in Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victim, identified as Tahir Abu Emhoye, was abducted alongside his elder brother, Abu Ibrahim Babatunde, on January 1, 2026.

The two brothers were kidnapped at about 7:30pm along City Pride Road, Igbira Camp, at the gate of their residence while attempting to enter their home after returning from work.

Tahir Abu Emhoye was said to be a fresh medical graduate of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, while his elder brother is currently undergoing housemanship at Edo University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.

Sources said the kidnappers contacted the family on Saturday, January 3, 2026, demanding a ransom of N200 million for the release of the victims.

The father of the abductees, Momoh Tahir, told newsmen on Sunday that the kidnappers contacted the family to demand N200million as ransom.

He said that after much discussion, the gunmen reduced the ransom to N100million, expressing hope that further negotiation would lead to an additional reduction.

He lamented that it had been a harrowing experience for the family and prayed for the safe return of his children.

He said, “They have been in touch with us since they were kidnapped. They asked for N200m, but we were able to negotiate N100 million. We are still hoping that further discussion will lead to a reduction of the ransom demanded.

“It’s a trying period for the family, but I pray that they will come back home safely.”

The PPRO of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the abduction of the brothers on Saturday, noted that a search of the bush began immediately after the police division received the report.

A viral video shared on the Auchi Blog and Services Facebook page by Ismail Egbomiade claimed that the deceased, who previously served as Director of Sports of the Ambrose Alli University Students’ Union government, was killed by the abductors and his body dumped near a river.

It was gathered that the lifeless body was later discovered by security operatives who had been combing surrounding bushes and forests in search of the abducted doctors.

Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the body was found by a riverside and was identified by family members as one of the kidnapped victims.
