“I Crawled in the Bush for 3 Kilometres” — Woman Who Escaped from Kidnappers’ Den in Owukpa Narrates Ordeal

A woman who miraculously escaped a notorious kidnappers’ den on the Orokam-Owukpa road has recounted her harrowing experience, describing how she spent three kilometres crawling through thick bushes to freedom, IDOMA VOICE reports.

The survivor revealed that the kidnappers, believed to be Fulani men, held the victims hostage in a forest camp where they were kept under strict and brutal conditions.

She narrated: “We were brought to their camp in the middle of the night. They were all asleep, surrounded by guns. I started praying and asking God to come to my aid. Even then, they brought two more people they had kidnapped to join us.”

According to her, the captives were forced to lie flat on the ground without being allowed to sit or stand for three days. “We lay down for three days without standing up. It was a terrible experience,” she said.

Observing the kidnappers, she noted, “They are all Fulani from what I observed; I didn’t see any Idoma person among them.”

Seizing a moment when the kidnappers were asleep, she stealthily crawled over the other captives and escaped into the bush.

“I crawled in the bush for three kilometres. My knees peeled with blood gushing out until I finally found myself in Ipole Owukpa and recognized the place.”

Upon reaching safety, residents of Ipole Owukpa helped her and arranged transport for her to return home.

The survivor expressed deep concern for those still in captivity. “I am praying to God to intervene because they won’t release them without ransom. Since I managed to escape, I’m sure they will move the rest to another forest.”
