IGP Redeploys Rivers CP To FCT, As Delta CP Olufemi Abaniwonda Is To Takes Over Rivers Police Command

The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has appointed new commissioners for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Delta and Rivers States.

According to the new postings, CP Tunji Disu will take over as the new Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory.

Tunji Disu, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State since November 2023, will be succeeded by Olufemi Abaniwonda, the current Commissioner of Police in Delta State.

A signal cited by SaharaReporters indicates that CP Peter Opara has also been reassigned to Delta State.

The signal states in part, “INGENPOL HAS ORDERED THE REDEPLOYMENT OF THE FOLLOWING COMMAND COMPOLS: X FROM COMPOL RVS TO COMPOL FCT X COMPOL DISU OLATUNJI RILWAN X FROM COMPOL DTS TO COMPOL RVS X COMPOL ABANIWONDA S. OLUFEMI X FROM COMPOL FCT TO COMPOL DTS X COMPOL PETER U. OPARA X POSTING IS WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT ‘MOST/IMMEDIATE.”

In a related development, the Police Service Commission has formally appointed CP Peter Opara as the substantive Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory command in Abuja.

Opara takes over from CP Benneth Igweh, whose tumultuous tenure in the FCT led to his promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police. He has now been assigned to Zone 7 Abuja as the Zonal Assistant Inspector General of Police.

This information was shared in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.

The Police Service Commission approved the appointments of four new substantive commissioners of police for Abia, Lagos, Ebonyi, and Akwa Ibom state commands.

These appointments were made following the recent promotion of several senior police officers by the Commission, which resulted in vacancies in various state commands, as noted in the statement signed by Ani.

The newly appointed commissioners are Isah Danladi Nda for Abia State Command; Olarewaju Ishola Olawale for Lagos State Command; Anthonia Adaku Uche Anya for Ebonyi State Command; and Miller Gajere Dantawaye for Akwa Ibom State Command
