1.) Nigeria’s application to join BRICS was almost certainly pushed by Muhammadu Buhari’s parochial, ethnocentric administration.

He couldn’t do a single good deed as president without spoiling it. He sidestepped his country’s official language and put his ethnic language on the banknote, which is exactly what you would expect of Muhammadu Buhari.

3.) Nigeria, for some reason, is apparently skipping the ongoing 2024 BRICS summit entirely. Nobody is representing Nigeria in Kazan. Not the president, not the VP, not the foreign minister, nobody. This is a huge statement for a summit that basically every consequential president in the Global South is attending in person.
