As part of activities to celebrate the 2024 International women’s day celebrations the Rivers state Governor Sir Similaya Fubara distributed Rice palliatives to women and pads to girls in secondary schools in the hinter area to Inspire inclusion
The Governor who distributed the Items through various women Groups, Non Governmental organizations (NGOs) in the state a urging the women to continue to be the pillars in their homes and the girls good ambassadors of their state by studying hard without distraction in making the state proud.

This year, we are enjoined to “invest in women,” to accelerate progress.” The theme for this year March 8, 2024, for International Women’s Day Investing in the health and wellbeing of women and girls first requires adequate investment in health overall and take a stand with us.
To achieve this goal members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter led by her Chairperson, Susan Serekara-Nwikhana took her sensitization campaign on Good Hygiene Practices to Methodist Girls High School, Harbour Road, Port Harcourt, where the Nawoj distributed Sanitary towels given to NAWOJ by His Excellency, Sir Siminalaye Fubara through the leaders of Rivers Women Unite for Sim led by Mrs. Sotonye Toby Fulton, The organisation used the opportunity to sensitize girls on the needs to pay attention to their Hygiene, avoid vices that could jeopardize their stay in school and become future pride mothers in their generation
Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State Chapter, then continued their visit to women at Bundu Water fronts. where severely bags of rice were distributed to women from the densely populated area. speaking with the women at Bundu waterfront NAWOJ Chairperson appreciated the governor and urged the women to continue to pray for his His Excellency Sir Similaya Fubura describing this singular act of the Governor as first of its kind in the history of celebrating women IWD in the state. She said “This is an indication that there are more better days for the women and girls in Rivers State. Thank you so much our own caring Governor with women face,” for thinking of women and girls in our society”
She said “Students are praying and wishing that you are able to make sanitary towels free the same way condom is made free and they are also asking you to reintroduce awarding of scholarships to best students as it was in the past. The women are praying for you to succeed in office, while also asking for job creation to better their lives and that of their children that have graduated and searching fir work here and there”
correspondent Anita Ogona also reports that Rice palliatives where also distributed to identified widows around the Ada George area in Obio/Akpor local government area.
