Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Moses Jitoboh, is dead.
The former police chief died in the early hours of today, Friday, December 27, 2024, at Garki General Hospital in Abuja. He reportedly died from blood clots in his lungs.
Confirming the news of his death, former DCM of FRSC Kayode Olagunju said in a social media post: “We lost DIG Moses Jitoboh, rtd, mni, a friend and course mate @ the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. Painful exit. Rest in Peace. May the Lord console your family, friends and others left behind.”
Jitoboh, who hailed from Bayelsa State, served as ADC to former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, during his tenure as Vice President under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua from 2007 to 2010.
DIG Jitoboh’s career in the police force came to an abrupt end following his compulsory retirement last year after the appointment of the current Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun. He subsequently approached the National Industrial Court in Abuja, alleging that he had been forced out of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
In his court filing, Jitoboh claimed he was compulsorily retired by the Police Service Commission (PSC) despite not having reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 or having served the required 35 years.
