There is a saying: “If education is expensive try ignorance”. This statement is apt and of great relevance to the one day in-house training for members of KABIDO CHAPEL of the Kaduna State Council of the NUJ. One major profession that requires daily upgrade of knowledge is journalism. He cannot afford to serve the public with yesterday’s knowledge, if he does, he will shrink his followership which will have adverse effects on his relevance. No wonder, at an emergency meeting held at the NUJ Kaduna State secretariat the KABIDO CHAPEL met to ruminate over the refreshing the minds of members. The theme of the event “_The Use Of The Social Media, and was held on the 18th of February, 2026, for the knowledge refresher exercise. The training took place at KABIDO CHAPEL OFFICE, KABIDO QUANTUM MEDIA, at a serene location in the southern part of Kaduna town.
The training was attended by members who were both excited and elated to engage in the refreshing of knowledge. The welcome address given by Comrade Jummai Adamu, Chairman of the Kabido Chapel, was awesome. She encouraged all members present to be attentive to benefit from this very important training. Professional social media specialists were on hand to facilitate the all important training. Participants displayed attentiveness which enabled every participant to refresh and readapt the way we work to our professional advantage he concluded.
The first paper handled by Mr. Ben Wengyang was instructive. He emphasized that on daily basis, scientific innovations has filled the emerging technologies and global information flow has been growing in geometric proportions. Cameras with different capabilities, satellite which covers a wide area is a tool at the hand of the modern men and women of the press. It is time to bridge the digital divide and remove darkness from our professionals he maintained. The need to acquire this modern equipments and hone the ideal know-how of the use , deploy them professionally will change the journalistic landscape entirely. All the necessary areas of this new technologies were broken down in an interactive nature that gladden the participants. It was indeed a welcome development.
The second paper titled ICT, Society and the Media was handled by Mr. Joe Nock who is an expert in computer based technologies which is behind the emerging technologies the smartphones a vital tool for any journalist thrilled the participants on ICT related issues. Appreciation and knowledge acquisition of these devices will aid our active performance in our market place. He emphasized that the beauty of any reportage lies in the facts that make up the news. It is possible therefore to record events without the knowledge of those been reported upon (almost like doing undercover). Mr. Nock added among other things that sincerely speaking, ICT is the driver of social change. This affects lifestyle and social interaction. People are benefiting from ICT at the moment, the way they communicate: (instant messaging, video calls) work(remote jobs, freelancing) to earn multiple incomes. Learn(online classes, webinars) It is possible for a family who are physically located in various cities of the world to have a webinar and interact wholesomely. In short he said the world has been reduced to a global village.
In summary, the paper is all embracing and indeed very helpful to all attendees. Doubts were cleared and the two facilitators explained the dark areas to participants.
In closing, the CEO of KABIDO QUANTUM MEDIA a well travelled and experienced veteran journalist Mr. Adamu Marshall told the audience that the training is quite deliberate to bridge the digital divide and enlighten chapel members. In his words he said: “KABIDO is doing her best and shall not allow anyone to cow us.” Sincerely speaking, the training was worth the investment of our valuable time.
