Lagos Officials Arrest Teen Begger Soliciting For Alms Using POS, Account number

Lagos State authorities have arrested a 15-year-old boy, Mafus Azeez, for aggressively soliciting alms along the Lekki–Epe Expressway by displaying bank account details and operating a POS device.

The arrest forms part of ongoing enforcement and mop-up operations across key corridors of the state, aimed at ensuring public safety and orderly streets.

The teenager is reportedly a repeat offender, known for engaging in this activity despite previous warnings from authorities.

Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a post on X

“One Mafus Azeez, aged 15, was apprehended along the Lekki–Epe Expressway for aggressively soliciting alms by displaying bank account details and operating a POS device on the road.

This individual is known for repeatedly engaging in this activity despite previous warnings,” Wahab stated.

During the operations, he said law enforcement teams also apprehended 18 beggars along the Ketu–Mile 12 axis for obstructing public spaces and causing environmental nuisances, as well as 38 miscreants along the Lekki–Epe Expressway for soliciting alms and disrupting traffic.

Wahab emphasised that enforcement efforts would continue across the state to keep roads safe, orderly, and free from social and environmental infractions.

“Enforcement will continue consistently across the State as we work to keep our roads safe, orderly, and free from environmental and social infractions,” he added
