The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected traffic robbers along the Lekki–Epe Expressway within the last two weeks, following increasing complaints by motorists over the theft of vehicle parts during traffic congestion.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, at different locations along the busy corridor. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a post on X on Tuesday.
According to Adebisi, the operation was part of ongoing efforts by the police to address criminal activities exploiting traffic situations along the Lekki axis.
Fourteen suspected traffic robbers have been arrested by the Tactical Squad, Elemoro, within the last two weeks at different locations along the Lekki–Epe Expressway,” she said.
She described the arrests as a demonstration of the command’s commitment to improving security and protecting motorists, while urging residents and road users to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
The development comes amid heightened public concern over traffic-related robberies in the Lekki area, particularly the theft of car parts while vehicles are stuck in gridlock.
Earlier, tech influencer Fisayo Fosudo had raised alarm on social media over repeated thefts from his vehicle in traffic, a post that sparked reactions from other motorists who shared similar experiences.
One motorist warned that certain vehicle models were frequently targeted at night along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, with thieves allegedly disguising as beggars or hawkers to carry out their operations.
Residents and road users have long complained about criminals taking advantage of traffic congestion along the expressway to steal valuables and vehicle parts.
The police said investigations into the arrested suspects are ongoing, assuring motorists of increased patrols and tactical operations aimed at curbing the menace and restoring confidence along the route.
