The Council of Legal Education (CLE) has officially released the results of the November 2024 Nigerian Law School Bar Final Examinations, with 260 students achieving the prestigious First Class grade, representing 3.6% of the 7,134 candidates who participated.
The results are now available on the Nigerian Law School’s official website, marking the end of a delayed release process that sparked public debate and legislative attention.
The breakdown of the results reveals a diverse performance among candidates. A total of 1,193 candidates (16.7%) secured a Second Class Upper grade, while 2,638 (37.0%) earned a Second Class Lower grade. Additionally, 1,595 candidates (22.4%) obtained a Pass grade, and 327 (4.6%) received a Conditional Pass. However, 940 students (13.2%) failed the examination, deferring their admission to the Bar, and 181 (2.5%) were marked absent.
According to reliable sources, the CLE, chaired by Chief Emeka Ngige, SAN, is withholding the results of some successful candidates due to unresolved issues, though specific details were not disclosed. The Council had previously faced scrutiny over the delayed release, prompting a motion in the House of Representatives sponsored by Hon. Benjamin Okezie
Kalu and Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka. The motion called for expedited action to address candidates’ concerns and ensure transparency.
In a statement dated March 28, 2025, the CLE assured stakeholders that it was finalizing the release process, emphasizing the need to complete all quality assurance measures before publication. The Council’s commitment to integrity and thoroughness in the evaluation process was reiterated, addressing public discourse on social media platforms like X, where candidates and observers expressed frustration over the delay.
The release of the results has been met with celebration among successful candidates, particularly the 260 First Class honorees, whose exceptional performance underscores the rigor of the Bar Final Examinations. The Nigerian Law School and the CLE congratulated all successful candidates, noting that those with Conditional Passes or failures would have opportunities to address their status in future sessions.
