Lawmaker Ikwechegh Pleads Not Guilty To Assault Charges, Granted N500,000 Bail

A Kuje Magistrate Court has granted bail to House of Representatives member Alex Ikwechegh, setting the amount at N500,000.

Ikwechegh, who represents Aba North and South, faced charges for allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, outside his residence in Abuja.

The allegations against him include abuse of office, assault, and threats to life.

In his ruling on Wednesday, Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id expressed his intent to grant the defendant’s bail application.

As a result, he approved the bail amount of N500,000, requiring two sureties of equal value.

The court specified that the sureties must reside within its jurisdiction and provide utility bills as proof of residence.
