Mr. Martin Ilo, a native of Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, has admitted to impregnating his wife’s younger sister during her stay in their Lagos home for omugwo—a traditional Igbo practice where a female relative assists in caring for a newborn.
According to sources, Chioma, the younger sister of Mrs. Ndidiamaka Ilo, had traveled to Lagos to support her sister following the birth of her child. However, events took a scandalous turn when it was discovered that Chioma was pregnant and Mr. Martin Ilo confessed to being responsible.
In his defense, Mr. Ilo claimed that Chioma seduced him during her stay in their home. In an attempt to justify his actions, he released several pictures of Chioma, allegedly taken from her social media accounts, suggesting that her choice of attire was often provocative. “She always dressed seductively, even in the house,” Mr. Ilo claimed. “One thing led to another, and I fell. I’m not proud of it, but she wasn’t innocent.”
Meanwhile, his wife, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Ilo, who is still recovering from childbirth, has been left devastated. In an emotionally charged statement, she said: “I trusted my sister to be there for me during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. I never imagined she would betray me like this—under my roof, with my husband.”
Family members and close friends have condemned the situation, describing it as both heartbreaking and disgraceful. Community elders from Iwollo have also expressed disappointment, calling for calm and urging the families involved to resolve the matter privately and with dignity.
As the story continues to stir mixed reactions on social media and within the Enugu and Lagos communities, many are calling for accountability and introspection on the sanctity of family boundaries—especially during sensitive cultural practices like omugwo.
