N200,000 Extortion: Anambra CP Orders Detention Of Six Police Officers Identified

The Anambra State Police Command has ordered the detention of six police officers allegedly involved in the N200,000 forceful extortion of a man in Onitsha, pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

The officers include two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and four Inspectors.

The state Police Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, directed their detention after the allegation surfaced on social media by a woman who said the victim is his husband.

A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Tuesday said that the senior officers connected to the incident have already been queried and statements have been taken from the other ranks involved.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police has ordered the detention of six police officers allegedly involved in the extortion incident in Onitsha, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.

The officers include two Assistant Superintendents of Police and four Inspectors.”

“Disciplinary procedures have commenced in line with police regulations. The senior police officers connected to the incident have been queried, while statements from the other ranks involved have been taken under caution in line with established police investigative procedures.”

He however disclosed that the command had begun steps to arrest a Point of Sale (POS) operator allegedly linked to the incident whose involvement suggests possible conspiracy in the incident
