Ogoni-man who killed His Kalabari Friend For Helping His Family Without His Consent Sentenced to Death by Hanging

A Rivers State high court sitting in Port Harcourt has convicted and sentenced one CHARLES BARIDOLEE to death by hanging for killing late GERALD TEKENA sometime in 2024.

CHARLES BARIDOLEE was facing murder trial for the death of GERALD TEKENA who he allegedly inflicted with several matchet cut after a quarry broke out between them in Bodo community in Gokana Local Government Area of the state.

BARIDOLEE attacked and inflicted matchet cut on his victim after he declined on the warning he issued on him to stop giving money to his family because they were no longer respecting him because of the level of money he was releasing to them, an attack which led to the death of TEKENA.

Delivering judgment, trial judge, Justice AUGUSTA CHUKWU held that the prosecution was able to prove the case of murder beyond reasonable doubt against the convict with evidence tendered and confessional statement by the convict.

Justice CHUKWU ruled that CHARLES BARIDOLEE should be hang on his neck until he is confirmed dead.

Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, the Chief Prosecution Counsel from the ministry of Justice, ORDU PRECIOUS, said the judgment has given hope to the family of the decease and proven that judiciary is the hope of a common man

On his part, the defense counsel, ANGUS CHUKWUKA commended the judge for what he described as a well considered judgment but revealed plan to appeal the judgment since it deal on human life
