Fear and outrage have gripped the Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State following the brutal killing of a respected traditional titleholder, popularly known as ‘High Chief Ozo na Nimo’.
The late elder statesman, who was a member of the Nimo Royal Cabinet, was abducted on June 19 while supervising activities at his piggery farm.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, who were masked, stormed the farm unexpectedly, sending workers fleeing in panic and leaving only the chief behind.
“The masked assailants stormed the farmland where ‘high chief’ was supervising activities, throwing the place into confusion as workers fled for their lives, abandoning only him,” one eyewitness recounted.
“The gunmen seized the elderly man at gunpoint and whisked him away, shortly after which they contacted his family and demanded N15 million as ransom for his freedom,” the source added.
Tragically, despite the ransom being paid, the kidnappers killed the victim.
His body, marked with deep machete wounds to the head, was found dumped near the same farm from which he was taken.
“His lifeless body, bearing deep machete cuts on the head, was later found dumped on the same farmland where he was kidnapped. The murder has sent shockwaves through the community,” another source revealed.
Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation, cordoning off the area and vowing to track down those behind the crime.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed condolences and provided additional details.
“Operatives of the Anambra State Police in the early hours of 23rd June 2025 recovered a lifeless body of an alleged kidnapped victim in Nimo,” Ikenga stated.
“The command has also stepped up efforts to arrest the suspects behind this heinous crime.
“The victim, who was later identified as Mr Ozor Augustine Chido, was allegedly abducted in the morning of 19th June 2025 at his piggery farm in Nimo.
“The operatives were still actively involved to rescue the victim but unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered on 23rd June, 2025, near his farm in Nimo.
“Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue. The command sympathises with the victim’s family and the community and assures that it shall leave no stone unturned in unmasking the suspects behind the dastardly act.
