Over 3000 Traders, Residents Of Rumuokwurushi Community, Enjoys Clean Water Provision, By Rotary Club Of PHC Express, At Oil Mill Market

As parts of efforts to meet the needs assessments of its host community, the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Express has provided portable water for Rumuokwushi community located at the popular yam zone oil mill market in Port Harcourt.

The project which was inaugurated by the district 9141 Governor, Emeke Michael Manasseh Utebor Witnessed by enthusiastic members of Rotary and friends, community leaders, traditional leaders, elders, traders and market leaders in attendance.

Explaining the importance of water in our lives and maintaining a healthy environment, The District Governor who was ably represented by the District Grant Chair and District Grant Nominee Designate Anthony Chibueze Olikagu (who will be Governor in 2026/2027) hailed the club for the project completion in record time, he noted that sanitation is amongst Rotary seven area of focus as such the club is a living example of what Rotary stands for, which is services to humanity, RC Port Harcourt Express specifically chose this project to promote sanitation and Hygiene in their host communities by providing accessible clean water to thousands of people that operates in this area.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning of the water project. Rtn Olikagu said the water will also aid the sanitation of this market,  ‘there is nothing to quantify what we have seen in this market today and that is what you can get from a focused leadership in rotary and a service that is beneficial to all

Also speaking to newsmen after the water project commissioning  the president of the club,  Rtn. Shittu Abdulrasheed gave more insight to the project Titled: Provision of Clean Water at Oil Mill Market in Rumuokwurushi Community.

He said Funding: was done by – “Rotary District 9142 Grant (DG2453015) and Donation from private donor and Club Funds contributed by members and friends”

He said the Project Duration was 10days, Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on 13th May, 2023 and it was Commissioned on Thursday 23rd May, 2024 saying “we provided a borehole with  reticulation system, storage tanks and tank stand to serve the over three thousand users of this market who are from this community and from neighboring communities”

“this particularly project is significant because portable water will eliminate the chances of contracting waterborne diseases and that is our focus.”

He said the water project which is based on needs assessment of the  community is one of the numerous  community development projects by the rotary club of port Harcourt express to identify with members of the host community as part of their quota in impacting life, promote growth in every aspect of the society.

For his part representative of the market leader Rumuokwurushi Market Union – Mr. Uwua O. Joseph on behalf of the Chairman said we have plenty people in the market doing buying and selling, “infact more than one thousand persons per day comes to this market, so we have the challenges of water supply especially clean water like this and appreciated the rotary club of port Harcourt express for the huge support, in the past we relied on aboki or what we call mai ruwa to bring us water and we pay for it, this water has solved that, which means we can now save our monies for other things to fend for our families. honestly we are really grateful he said”

Also speaking on behalf of the community, Rumuokwurushi Community by Chief Osi Wosu – CDC Chairman said the project has to do with lives and human comes first before every other thing, we thank them for the doing the needful, water is life, and to provide this kind of project in our community is what we all are happy about. so we thank them very well and may God bless those who donated to the project
