There was panic at the Alake Sports Complex, Ijeja, Abeokuta, one of the venues of the 2024 National Sports Festival, due to gas explosion, PUNCH Online reports.
Eyewitnesses say the incident occurred while a gas truck supplying the complex’s generating set suddenly caught fire, triggering panic among athletes and spectators nearby.
Emergency responders were quick to the ground, and the situation has been put under control.
Events at the venue, including handball, squash and badminton, had resumed as of the time this story was filed.
