The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Uyoatta Warrie, who is accused of fatally stabbing his son, Joseph Warrie, during a violent altercation at their home in Eket Local Government Area.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on the night of Sunday, June 1, at their residence located at No. 4 Ediam Street, Idua, in Eket.
Confirming the development to journalists on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said police were already investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
“Yes, the command is aware of the incident. An investigation is ongoing to establish the actual cause of death. We are reviewing whether he was pushed, stabbed, or if something else transpired,” DSP John stated.
While official findings are still pending, a source close to the family, who requested anonymity, provided a disturbing account of the events. The source claimed that a disagreement between the father and son escalated when the younger Warrie allegedly attempted to attack his father with a broken bottle. The situation quickly turned deadly when the father, reportedly acting in self-defense, overpowered his son and struck him with a sharp object.
The young man was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before medical help could be rendered.
The source further revealed that the boy’s mother operates a church near their residence, adding a complex emotional layer to the already shocking incident.
Uyoatta Warrie is currently being held at the Uqua Divisional Police Headquarters in Eket as investigations continue. Police have assured the public that justice will be served and that all sides of the incident will be thoroughly examined.
