Police officers attached to Azikiwe Police Division at Illabouchi last Wednesday(10 April,2024) rescued a female tenant aka Comfo and her three children who were locked inside their Shop by her landlord simply identified as J O. at Ekwulobia street Mile 3 Diobu Portharcourt .
We learnt that the landlord on Tuesday night(April 9,2024 ) used his own padlock to lock the female tenant who is a widow and her three children inside the store because she is yet to pay him(landlord) three months rent arrears .
Our source disclosed that the personnel of Azikiwe Police Division were informed last Wednesday morning and came to effect the arrest of the landlord and ordered him to open the door before the female tenant and her children regained her freedom.
Our correspondent who visited the Police station last Wednesday morning saw the female tenant and the landlord writing statement.
The female tenant declined speaking to our reporter when approached on the road but impeccable sources disclosed that the female tenant has withdrawn the case against the landlord and rented an apartment while the landlord has been granted bail.
Meanwhile a Portharcourt based lawyer Jane James Esq who is also the Chairperson Legal Care Advocacy Foundation in an interview with our reporter said it is a case of false imprisonment, since the imprisonment deprived the tenant of freedom and liberty.
Mrs. James added that it is an offence that is punishable under the Nigeria law.
