Reactions As Rivers Chief Judge Constitute LG Election Tribunal

Resident of the state has criticized The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, after he announced the constitution of election tribunals to hear petitions arising from the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections scheduled for August 30, 2025 on Monday in Port Harcourt.

Speaking in various social media platforms, some residents express disappointment over his stand, saying such gestures will legitimize the illegal administration of sole Administrator Ibok Ete Ibas in the state.

Meanwhile CJ Simeon Amadi announcement was conveyed in a letter dated August 18, 2025, which surfaced online on August 25, 2025.

According to the letter, the Local Government Election Tribunals will be chaired by Chief Magistrates Kilsi Giadom, Harry Sotonye Linda, and Chimeñen B. Okekem

The letter, titled “2025 Local Government Councils’ Election Tribunals,” stated that the appointment of the chairmen and members of the tribunals was made “pursuant to Sections 1(1), (2), (3), and (4) of the Rivers State Local Government Election Tribunals Law, No. 3 of 2000 (as amended)

The composition of the tribunals is as follows:

First Tribunal: Kilsi Giadom, Chief Magistrate (Chairman); Promise Green; and Ven. Christian John-Jaja.

Second Tribunal: Harry Sotonye Linda, Chief Magistrate (Chairman); Anthony Enyinda; and Azubuike Georgewill.

Third Tribunal: Chimenem B. Okekem, Chief Magistrate (Chairman); Israel Dagogo Israel; and Ala Atonibere.

Justice Amadi assured the appointees that the date and time for their swearing-in, expected to take place this week, would be communicated by the Chief Registrar.
