The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS) has issued a public notice reminding all taxable residents of Rivers State to file their Annual Individual Income Tax Returns on or before March 31, 2026, in line with statutory requirements.
In the notice signed by the Executive Chairman, Sir Israel O. Egbunefu, the Service stated that the directive is pursuant to the provisions of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, which mandates all individuals to declare their income for the preceding year of assessment.
According to the agency, the requirement applies to all categories of income earners, including employees in both public and private sectors, self-employed individuals, business owners, and professionals operating within the state.
RIRS emphasized that timely filing of tax returns is critical to ensuring transparency, efficient tax administration, and compliance with national tax regulations.
The Service therefore urged all eligible taxpayers to ensure that their 2025 tax returns are accurately completed and submitted through its approved channels before the deadline.
It warned that failure to comply may result in penalties and other sanctions as stipulated under the relevant tax laws.
RIRS also encouraged taxpayers requiring assistance to visit any of its offices or access its official platforms for guidance, reiterating its commitment to providing professional support and a seamless tax compliance process.
The notice forms part of ongoing efforts by the Rivers State Government to strengthen revenue administration and promote voluntary tax compliance across the state.
