Rivers Police Arraigns 2 Persons Over False Information On Killing Of Motorcycle Rider In Ahoada

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID),Portharcourt of the Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday,11th November,2024 arraigned one Menwe Nnamdi James,38 year old and Ekele Okorogba 40 year old before a Magistrate court in Portharcourt,  presided over by Senior Magistrate Wobia C.Akani Esq on two count charges bordering on false information to the Police on the murder of Godstime Innocent, a Motorcycle rider, on November 17th,2024 in Ahoada main town, when they allegedly told the Police that one Hector Ekeakita Chinem, the Public Relation Officer of Igbu-Akoh Youth Congress, Ahoada East Local Government Area was responsible for the killing.

Count 1 of the charge sheet with suit no PMC/1531C/2024 read :That you Menwe Nnamdi v James, Ekele Okorogba on the 17th day of November at Ahoada main town in Ahoada Magisterial district but triable in the Portharcourt magisterial district did conspire amongst yourself to give false information to the Police and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516A of the criminal code of CAP 37 Vol.11 law of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.

Count11 Read :That You Menwe Nnamdi James,Ekele Okorogba on the same date and place in the aforementioned magisterial district with intent to give false information which you know and believe to be false to the Police who use his lawful powers as employed in the public service to cause the lnjured and annoyance to one Hector Ekeakita Chinem by arresting and detaining him which would not have been done if the fact were known to him and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 125A (1) b of the criminals code CAP 37 Vol.11 of Rivers State.

The defendants both pleaded not guilty to the two count charges when it was read to them.
The Senior Magistrate Wobia C.Akani granted the two defendants bail with one surety each in like sum of 500,000 naira.
The Senior Magistrate directed that the surety must have verifiable means of livelihood and address.
The case was adjourned to 21st January 2024 for hearing.
